I was given a empty memory box. Soon enough Alana's memory box became full of little mementos, and things that belonged to Alana. The memory box I was given means so much to me. I keep it near at all times when I am home, and when I am working on this project. To me this memory box was an acknowledgement of Alana's life. My memory box inspired me to use my artistic talents to begin a program of my own, in honor of our daughter Alana. We call our boxes, Precious Memory Boxes. As of right now it is only my husband and I working on this project. We
know that these Precious Memory Boxes will mean a lot to the parents
who receive them. They will let parents know that their child's
life is special no matter how long they were with us. We hope these
boxes will help to bring comfort during the really tough days, and
the ones when you feel okay knowing that someone out there knows
your baby is precious too. What We Do & Want to DoWe buy paper mache boxes, and every box is carefully hand painted with love. We donate our Precious Memory Boxes to Beth Israel Medical Center located in New York City. I have taught myself to crochet so that I can also donate tiny hats, bonnets, and booties. I make them in various sizes so that they can fit even the smallest babies. Here are a few that I have made.
We would also like one day soon to be able to buy books, booklets, charm/pendants or pins to include inside each of our Precious Memory Boxes. What to Put In Your Memory BoxWhen
my daughter passed away, everything little thing I had since I was
pregnant with her became something special to us. Here are some examples of what we have kept In our memory box so you can have an idea of what to put inside of yours. These are just a few examples, but remember that you can put anything you want inside it.
